Shyista Ahmed is an Art Practice major and Psychology minor, pursuing interior design professionally. Saint Mary’s allowed her to study abroad in Europe, become president of the International Club, represent the Art Department for the Liberal Arts Bridge program, and exhibit her artwork in the Saint Mary’s College Museum of Art. Additionally, Shyista was part of the Lamorinda art scene in the capacity of judge and artist’s assistant, and interned at Marriott International.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were
Always my parents, Shakeel and Iffat Ahmed, for continually supporting my dreams and my amazing friends for always standing by my side. Also, have to give a huge shoutout to the entire art department for providing me so many opportunities to advance. Specifically, professors Laura Miller and Andrew Mount have been amazing mentors to help further my craft and develop my skills. Thank you all!
My favorite SMC memory is
Having the beginning of senior year to spend (and live) with 2 of my best friends while we took trips to the city, spontaneously planned boba runs, actually established a gym routine, and chatted about every topic under the sun.
I'm looking forward to most
Taking a much-needed break after these few intense months, hopefully sitting in a coffee shop with friends again, and checking things off of my bucket list like: traveling to Greece, learning how to surf and skydive, and experiencing Disneyland around the world. Career wise, I'm excited to pursue my passion of interior design and one day ultimately create and construct my own house!
